About Fraser Coast Anglican College

The College is located on Doolong South Road, Hervey Bay, Australia, on 64 acres of scenic farming and bush land, approximately five minutes drive from the beautiful Hervey Bay beaches. Our Principal is Mr Tony Wood.  The College is owned and operated by the Anglican Diocese of Brisbane.  We are a co-educational day school encompassing Kindergarten, Primary (including Prep) and Secondary School as well as education for International Students.

Our Mission

We provide a supportive Christian community and a high quality learning environment which enriches the body, mind and spirit, challenging each individual student to develop a love of learning, build their confidence, serve others, have options for the future and achieve their best.

Our Present

Currently there are approximately 800 students ranging from Kindy to Year 12. We have a teaching staff of approximately 60 who teach a wide variety of subjects. Our participation in community activities is integral to the philosophy of the College and is keenly supported by our Arts and Sports Departments.

Our staff take great pride in the achievements of all their students. The assessment of work is in keeping with the National Curriculum and Board of Senior Secondary School Studies. Courses offered in Years 11 and 12 meet the standards of the Queensland Board of Senior Secondary School Studies.

Our involvement in Anglican spirituality is gentle and pervasive, but it is certainly not aggressive. By the time our Year 12 students graduate, they can feel the genuine and heart-warming spirituality that all have gained. We believe, very much, in providing an environment that welcomes a variety of religious beliefs, but, nonetheless, provides an Anglican code of ethics and values by which to live.  One of our successful programs is the Student Development programme.  This is flexible and designed to meet individual student needs providing a very sound foundation for life.

Students at FCAC can (and do so, extensively) involve themselves in the very large number of cultural activities and sporting teams. The extent of this involvement is remarkable, with virtually every student undertaking at the very least one major cultural and one major sporting activity each semester. The success, both regionally and State-wide in music, sports, debating and competitions is immediately testifiable by walking into our foyer.

We have a full and exciting Calendar of events with activities to suit all. Our Newsletter is a useful source of information for the College community.

For more information please contact us. We are happy to make an appointment for you to visit the College and / or provide literature, and will assist in any way we can with information you seek or questions you may have about Fraser Coast Anglican College.

Our History

The College commenced operations in a business office in Main Street, Pialba, on 1st July 1994.  Our Foundation Principal was Mr Grahame Ginn (1994 - 2004). On 31st January 1995, the College opened its doors to 138 students from Years 1 to 8, and was officially Blessed, Dedicated and Opened on Saturday 1st April 1995 at a ceremony in the College grounds officiated at by the the Most Reverend Peter Hollingworth, Archbishop of the Anglican Diocese of Brisbane. Over the next few years, further year groups were added until it now caters for Preparatory classes (4 year olds) through to Year 12.  The Fraser Chapel (formerly St Mary’s the Virgin Anglican Church) was moved from Tewantin to the College site.

At the first Speech Day, the Primary administration building was named the Coman Building after the Executive Officer of the Anglican School’s Commission, Dr Peter Coman. Other buildings are named after commonly noted local shrubs and trees. The Houses of the College are named after stars or star systems.

Stage 2 of the program was commenced in August 1995 to cater for the Preparatory school and Year 9 additions to the College. Stage 2 was opened by Bishop John Noble and the Coman Building dedicated to Dr Peter Coman (Executive Officer of the Anglican Schools Commission).

Stage 3 of the program was commenced in April 1996 and involved the construction of the Administration Building, Stage 1 of the Music Centre and a high technology multi- classroom block named Tibouchina.

Stage 4 of the program was commenced in May 1997 and provided four secondary classrooms, a Physics laboratory, a Catering/Food Technology laboratory, an extension to the Industrial Technology building, extensions to the Primary and Secondary amenities blocks, locker walkways, shade areas and a Senior student relaxation area.

Stage 5 was commenced in June 1998 providing the first section of the Art Centre, a new secondary amenities block, a Primary classroom block and a Secondary classroom block. Since Stage 5, a number of semi-permanent and demountable buildings have been located at the College to cope with recent significant growth.

Stage 6 commenced in 2004 and provides a purpose-built Preparatory School, road works, a new Marine Science laboratory, a Drama class and store-room, three GLAs, Stage 1 of the gymnasium complex, tennis courts and other infrastructure.
