Primary School at Fraser Coast Anglican College, Hervey Bay
The Primary years are perhaps the most important years of schooling. It is in these years a child’s foundation for success is laid. The Primary School caters for boys and girls from Preparatory school (pre-school) through to Year Seven. Therefore, the school is structured into two sections to cater for the differing stages of educational and social development of each student.
The Junior Primary School (Preparatory to Year Three) aims to lay a strong educational foundation for their young students. During Years Four to Seven the emphasis includes exposure to a broader curriculum to engage students in fields where their talents can be developed. All classes within the Primary School are of mixed ability.
The overall operation of the school is managed by the Head of Primary, whilst the Deputy Head of Primary has a focus on curriculum development and planning with pastoral care an integral component for the smooth day-to-day functioning.
Highly qualified teaching staff are dedicated to serve the needs of the children. Each child is encouraged to strive to achieve his/her potential in all aspects of school. Carefully planned school-based curriculum documentation is provided for the development of the children’s academic abilities, and the school’s performance in music and sport is enviable.
The Primary school seeks to instill in the children a positive attitude to all aspects of their education. Students learn in a caring, secure and Christian environment, where warmth and acceptance of each individual child is a natural part of school life.
The Primary school caters for the differing stages of educational and social development of each child. The curriculum includes structured sporting and cultural pursuits for all students in addition to broad based academic studies. The spiritual program completes the development of the children. Our students are part of a small, caring community where diligent staff are dedicated to meeting their needs. All children are encouraged to strive to achieve their potential in all aspects of school life. Full participation allows individuals to explore a wide range of experiences, thus enabling them to find their own area in which to excel. Our extensive curriculum prepares children to have the confidence and skills to cope with life and its challenges.
Structure of the Day
The school works on a four-term year that closely follows the pattern of
other Queensland schools. The first lesson of the school day commences at
8.30am and the school day concludes at 2.45pm (Years P-3) and 3.00pm (Years
4-7).
Current Curriculum
The children are offered a balanced and comprehensive academic program. The
students undertake studies within the key learning areas of English,
Mathematics, Science, Studies of Society and the Environment, Technology,
Arts, LOTE (Chinese or French) and Health and Physical Education. In
addition, the school teaches Christian Living as part of its spiritual
development program. Computers are integrated throughout the curriculum as a
tool to assist the students in their learning.
Development Electives
Development electives are an important component of the curriculum as they
aid in the encouragement of all students to develop their interests and
talents to their potential. These development electives sessions occur on an
afternoon after lunch, until the end of the school day.
The Sport Development Electives offered include: Touch, Cross Country, Cricket, Athletics, Soccer, Tennis, Swimming, Hockey and Netball.
The Cultural Electives offered include: Drama, Choir, Concert Band, Music and Dance.
The Primary School also offers the opportunity for children to
participate in Eisteddfods, competitions and Opti-Minds. An annual Musical
is performed where every child in the Primary School participates. Each year
children participate in the Maryborough Music Eisteddfod and the Maryborough
Speech and Drama Eisteddfod.
Parent Involvement
Parents are an important part of the school family. Parents and teachers
share a unique relationship as we consider both to be partners in the
education of our students. Parents of the Primary school, and in particular
Early Childhood classes, are welcome to participate in our classrooms at any
time, to work in co-operation with the teaching staff.
