Homestay Program

Our Fraser Coast Anglican College Homestay Program provides a welcoming and caring “home away from home” for our visiting students. Our homestay database comprises over 100 wonderful families from across the local Hervey Bay area.

The family dynamics range from young families with children who attend our school through to retired families who have lived in the Fraser Coast region for many years. They open not only their homes, but also their hearts, to the care and development of our International students.

Students are placed in homestay accommodation according to the suitability and compatibility of families. It is the host family’s responsibility to provide the student with transport to and from school each day and to any extra-curricular activities. Families also provide the students with three meals a day, washing and all homecare, as they would their own children.

Each family receives a comprehensive orientation to hosting and has a full understanding of the academic and disciplinary actions of our school. All families are subject to the laws of the Queensland State Government’s homestay expectations and family members over the age of 18 years must hold a suitability card. Every homestay home is inspected by a College representative and the family is interviewed to ensure their suitability as a safe and caring homestay family.

Homestay families hold a very important role in educating our International students. Within the homestay environment, students learn about Australian culture and practice the English language first-hand. All of our homestay families are English speaking and hold an interest in developing our students’ language.
